God's calling on your life
WILLOWCREEK DISCIPLE by Alley Cat Slick is the story of a man who finds himself unable to escape God's calling on his life. Tank is the leader of the Willowcreek Posse which is comprised of Tank, Playa, Pop, Solo, Suga and Pookie. Tank and his fellow thugmates spend their days selling dope, sexing women, participating in acts of violence and ultimately living the fast life. Tank often calls the shots for the posse and determines what action the gang will take next.
By virtue of being a member of the group, Tank comes into constant contact with Grandma who is Playa and Suga's grandmother. She is constantly "preaching" to the posse and telling them of God's Word and how they should obey His commandments and cease living the wayward lives they have chosen. Though it appears the words are falling on deaf ears, they are not. Tank eventually accepts the call on his life and becomes a disciple for Christ.
WILLOWCREEK DISCIPLE was an interesting tale. Tank's transformation illustrates that a seed planted does have the ability to grow and flourish no matter how long the seed remains dormant. Unfortunately, the book falls short of its full potential because of the author's writing style. He sometimes switched between the first and third person in telling this story and it detracted from the flow of the book. Despite the foregoing, I still enjoyed the overall message of the book and found Tank's story encouraging and inspiring.
Aberjani, a published author
Greatly enjoyed this synopsis for WILLOWCREEK DISCIPLE. The story sounds like one fresh from the painful ambiguities of life as many are experiencing it in 2007 and the author clearly has meaningful insight into the subject matter. The chosen theme is powerful and the issues addressed are not any we can afford to ignore as individuals, as communities, or as a country. Hopefully WILLOWCREEK DISCIPLE is just a beginning for Alley Cat Slick and readers will see much more from him as he continues to grow as a writer and to bless us with the fruit of his literary labors.
A Guerro, an avid reader
I read Willowcreek Discipline. It is a well written piece. The story is action-packed. Not at all boring. I think it is an accurate illustration of gang life. The book is basically about people being bad transforming to good. It's a book about choices. I have learned many lessons from book. Hope you can read it as well for entertainment and some eye openers.
